Living with Kiwi and Skittles

We wound up with two baby parrots from the week of feeding four. It was not because we couldn't make up  our mind. We made them up too well. Sally was stuck on the little green one and I liked the runt of the litter, a little red one. She is actually the same size but she is several weeks older. We bought a second bird. Never mind which was number one and which was number two.

Ruby has learned to like my computer which means she will probably be successful with me. I expect to blog a couple times each week if something happens.  The way these two are starting to fill out with feathers I don't see how nothing will be happening. I may put in pictures more often but I don't expect to blog.  I don't want to burn everyone out on baby pictures. Here are a couple more pictures without comment.

This is a nice big wing compared to prior pictures. The best picture is below. We first wanted two because these two seemed to really be bonded to each other. Then when the other two went home it seemed to be markedly less. Then this popped up. First time on a perch.

This is what 48 hours brings. Look at the green and blue coming out. A bit more difficult to see what is happening with Ruby but there is red and blue that you can see. What you don't see is the purple that is popping out on her belly.
Greengo was a makeshift name although I always liked Ruby. This is Amie in the picture with the birds and I. Mama was taking the picture. We knew we needed some forever names. Mama and Amie came up with Kiwi for Greengo and I came up with skittles for ruby. Kiwi because he is so green and really Kiwi is for New Zealand as well but Mama says that doesn't have anything to do with it. I thought of skittles because I have no idea when the variation of colors is going to stop. She has red, gray, blue, purple and I don't know when it's going to stop.  Anyway, barring change, that will be their names.

We are  trying clicker training with them and have noticed something pretty amazing. We feed them, hold them, and then put them down. They potty when you put them down and it has been a few days since they pottied on my shoulder.  We click when they go. I'm liking this better and better.

Bigger, and you hopefully will take my word for that. More colorful which you can see.

No more words.

1/11/13 I have learned some things about birds from living with Sally. What I thought I knew was that birds grew to almost adult size immediately and then began to change in appearance. These kids are different and you can see that from comparing the  pictures. I think we started "adoption parrot style" about three weeks ago and they looked like baby buzzards. Well they are growing but you can't tell so much from the pictures. The appearance is startling. Just a few days ago she was a reddish blush to her head and now she is a redhead. You have to see them in person to appreciate the brilliance of the colors. Just four days ago there wasn't any green on his head. They are a blast to watch and record but even bigger than all this is the change of behavior. To say they are growing fast is an understatement. Catch you when there is more to update.

I guess I don't need to say that they just keep on growing and the feathers keep coming in. Skittles is starting to eat stuff besides baby food. Even though kiwi is slightly bigger there is no trouble seeing that he is a couple weeks behind her in development.

So if you want Lettie to come visit just get a bird.
