Sally and the family spent 2-3 years in Iron City, Georgia. Now that isn't terribly long and things do change but she thinks this is one of the first homes they lived in. Even though that isn't a long time, there are a lot of ties that bind. The biggest tie was her Mom, Evelyne and husband "Tiny".
This was their home and, according to Sally, it is basically unchanged in the past 35 years or so.
If we had been confused, this would probably have restored perspective.
This shop does tires and automotive repair. All those years ago it would have been the Martin bait shop.
This is the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church which was the family church when residing in Iron City.
It's been there for quite a spell and the cemetery is quite large.
We visited the Lane, Martin cemetery. There is a series of pictures in the slide show below.
The cemetery is located inside a large field. When we took GG there 11 years ago I don't recall knowing what grew there.
When we were approaching we thought this was snow. The weather had been cold enough. It's cotton.

We left with intentions of stopping once more on our way home. It wasn't here. I have just thought Mobile was striking every time I drove through. I wanted to get past this.
On the way over we had seen signs telling us that Baton Rouge had a higher murder rate than Chicago so we weren't crazy about that either. Prices were pretty high also.

It wasn't that the sign said Friendly Inn. It was the friendly price ($49.99) listed right underneath.
This was on the Texas side of Baton Rouge close to a town named Slidell. They did not advertise their murder rate but it is probably less than Chicago and Baton Rouge.
We were tired so the room was quiet enough. The worst thing was the smell of disinfectant burning my eyes.
Recommendation: If you are tired and don't want to spend $100 for a room, go for it.

This was close enough and good enough to cheer us up the next morning. Long Cajun name like Ponchatoula and big time family atmosphere.
I think you must have to really want to move a large boat like this. 18 wheeler and the escorts needed for wide loads. Sounds pretty expensive to me.
If I remember correctly we followed or led this across the Texas state line. If I'm wrong, Sally promised not to tell.
Family members who think they might visit GG's grave site should see the slide show below.
It's deceptive when you try to find it. We had the advantage of having been there before (2003) and it took us a while.
