Cleaning up Ranch Security, Bob gets a haircut

Some things are just in the Genes although there is more involved than that. Even if you're a natural you have to work to develop skills.

If you are reading this you probably already know that we think our daughter Lettie is more gifted in dealing with dogs than anyone we know. Not that there is any bias there of course.

If you haven't read the original story, it will make more sense if you scroll down for that first. Go to the fourth picture, read on, and come back for this.

Picture
Lettie left town for Florida. For the past year or so her oldest son Zack has been learning the trade. He is employed by Petsmart. Reports are that they like his work. Me too.

Zack brought an assistant. Her name is Megan and they seem to make a pretty good pair. Bob always looks like he is going to his own hanging when he is getting a haircut but this one went pretty well.

Picture
Of course nothing happens without the approval of Mama. Mama approves of Bob’s appearance. Since he is the head of security it’s necessary to look sharp. He does.

PictureBob before all this bath and a haircut stuff.
We had a big day at the ranch today. If any of you ever read stories about the old west you know that folks that lived on ranches didn’t bathe regularly. Well in some cases that’s still true today. You know Bob if you read Tail of Two Dogs. You can still find it under our farm and animals on this site.

Bob is pretty independent. When the weather is cool or cold, you cannot keep him indoors. Of course this is a half hour north of Houston so that is relative.

Picture
This story is also about Lettie. She is our daughter and is just excellent at grooming dogs. She needs to be as that is how she earns her living. Anyone that loves their clients the way she does is bound to be successful.

First she took Bob to the front porch and gave him a rough cut. Living outdoors like the macho dude he is means that bob’s hair might have some tangles. You could get rich with those odds in Vegas. Lettie took the clippers with a big attachment and plowed through all that. Bob still wanted to lick her face after all that. True love.

Picture
Sally and I are going on vacation and Lettie has a plan to move to Florida. That means it's too early for this look which is great for our summers. I wouldn't risk this for another twenty days or so. We still have a chance for cold weather. It was in the forties last night. We slept with a blanket and that was with the furnace working. That means we can’t take Bob’s fur coat.

Picture
I think this gives a better idea of just how hairy our guy is.

Picture
Throughout this whole thing Bob's affection for Lettie did not diminish at all. I knew she would be successful in this occupation because of the way dogs respond to her. Ours go crazy when she comes. If there is a speed at which a tail stops wagging and flies off I think Lettie will get them to that point.

Picture
Correction, I meant to say the preceding pictures show how hairy our guy was.

Picture
Bob does not have a real fondness for water. When he was a baby I used to get him wet and his coat just seemed to shed the water. In adulthood he seemed to lose that love for a swim. He likes it even less when he’s in a tub. That he willingly stayed is some sort of testimony to her influence.

Picture
The look on his face made you think he was on the way to his hanging. Indy, his housedog playboy buddy certainly tried to empathize.  I think there was too much “glad it’s you, not me” to be taken seriously.

Picture
From his posture I think he liked the blow dry better than most of the day’s events. At the time he didn’t know, of course, that this was in preparation for a smooth cut. The heat is coming.

Picture
This is the look we were striving for but it won’t last.

Picture
When the work was all done and he looked all shiny and pretty, what was the first thing he did? He went to the door and began to scratch the glass. That's his sign to "let me out". I did and he couldn't wait to roll in the dirt. After practically clogging the drain in the tub he couldn't wait to reload again. I'm just glad we don't have to do this with his shift partner on the security force. I don't think Lettie wants to give a bath and haircut to Mr. Goose.

Security members should present a clean image. It is with this in mind that we did this today.
