I am always surprised at the hogwash that one can hear when this fellow is presenting his case for a repair job. Your defense is to learn.
One of the most difficult things I experienced was keeping my service technicians honest. It isn’t that they want to be dishonest. It’s just that they would like to make a living and it’s so much easier when you do jobs with smoke and mirrors.
This serviceman understands some basics about how these things work. Some of the worst understand little more. Some are scrupulously honest and are almost engineers. It makes sense to level the playing field by arming yourself with some basics also. One of our presidents said: “trust but verify”. I believe in that.
I intend to present some of these basics in bite sized chunks. Some may take longer than the rest but, believe, me they are basic. If you cannot understand something I probably did not explain it well enough. Comment and I will go further.
