This is Lee posting for Sally. Yesterday at church it became evident to me that we have unintentionally introduced considerable confusion about the health status of my bride. That is not because we have strayed from the truth. It is because the truth as we know it has been a moving target. It moved rapidly.
About three weeks ago a tooth that had been worked on about three years ago began to abscess. She could hardly eat. We went to the dentist. We were given antibiotics and told: Nope we won’t stand behind our work.
About then her right knee (that’s the good one) started giving out. She went to the sports medicine Doctor and was told it was probably an “insufficient fracture” but the knee was a wreck. He said to just wait for about three weeks and it would get better. Ok, the Doctor is smarter than us so he must know best. Right?
The next day I took her out to breakfast and she started having major problems. Took her to the emergency room at Conroe Regional. By the way, they were terrific. Diagnosis was a Gallstone impaction and attack.
There is a complication. About 3-4 years ago she took her second chemo treatment for Hep C. The virus is gone but it had an effect on her liver. She has a great Doctor who is even on the transplant board. He is adamant that surgery must be done from a group of Doctors with whom he has relationships and who are located near his office. There is always a chance of liver failure.
We contacted the gallbladder doctor who is also on the transplant group. He made arrangements for removal. He scheduled that and we returned tuesday for pre-op. By that time the leg was worse and she was in a wheelchair. He got a “deer in the headlights” look and before the day was over we had been seen by an orthopedic surgeon.
As it stands now, if the GP can get the lab work submitted in time, we will have surgery thursday. If not, the following tuesday. When her leg is fixed, we can approach the gallbladder. In the meantime, the acute pain has subsided. Providing she doesn’t zig when she should zag life is easier
